Happy Thursday everyone! You guys do know that this Sunday is daylight savings time = that automatically puts me in a better mood! The fact that I will leave work in not PITCH BLACK DARKNESS fills my soul with happiness. March definitely begins the work craziness - we start traveling more often and our huge Cinco de Mayo events are less than 2 months away! Crazy days at the office definitely make the weeks go by faster! I have a fun couple of weekends coming up - my cousin and her boyfriend will be coming into town this weekend and then I am off to Atlanta for work and straight to DC for St. Patrick's Day Weekend. My BFF Mon lives there and some of my besties will be there so I am so excited to see my girls! I went to college in Boston so most of my college friends live up North, but we try to see each other as much as possible! :)
If you don't know already - my friend Nikki from The Pink Growl is helping us get our asses into gear for summer - as in she she and her friend Manda came up with the idea for us to log 30 miles in the month of March. To say I am slacking is an understatement - usually I am at the gym 5 times per week, but this week has been crazy AND I have been unmotivated (and it's cold outside wahhhh)! Not an excuse but I have only managed to workout twice since March 1st (one was this morning) - I better get moving so I don't look like a major loser in this challenge!
Saturday March 2nd: 2 miles of interval runs on treadmill at incline 9
Thursday March 7: 1.75 miles of interval runs and speed walking on treadmill at incline 9
Total: 3.75 Miles
So what is interval running you might ask? I definitely have a love/hate relationship with them. Obviously, I would have more miles if I was running at a lower incline and for longer and not doing short runs. You can read about endurance running vs. interval running on many sites, but I like this article - it explains the difference and how interval running is great for fat burning. My friend Heather told me about this app - it is called Gym Boss and it is perfect for interval runs since it will count down the seconds. I usually do 12 rounds of 40 sec rest and 30 sec work on incline 9 or 10 on the treadmill. My "rest" is anywhere from 2.7 to 3 and then my "work" is anywhere from 4.5 to 6 (I just interchange depending if I feel like I am about to pass out or not). The incline and rest are both important - believe me - you will be dying & the best part is that you will burn SO many calories in a short amount of time. I try to always incline walk after to make sure I get at least 30 min in, but honestly - you will sweat so much and get a great workout in just 20 min. Let me know if you try interval running!
The GymBoss App
you can customize & it is FREE!
I can't believe daylight savings time begins Sunday. I am so excited!!
ReplyDeleteRamblings of a Suburban Mom
I need to start doing more interval running. I have been doing 5 and 5. 5 Minute power walk, around 3.7-4 then 5 minute run 5.3 and up. I need to change it up!!
ReplyDeleteGah Love that scarf and little necklace!!
Incline 9?!?! That is a HIGH incline! Go you!
ReplyDeleteYay for joining us! But the intervals you are doing- crazy! More power to you though!
ReplyDeleteYou are adorable! I'm so glad you're linking up! And don't you worry you will get those miles in - I am not even worried about you! you do a 9 incline? HOLY SHIT that's crazy and I would get mega shin splints! I love intervals though, they are supposed to burn more cals. And I've never heard of that app so I need to check it out. Thank ya! XOXO
ReplyDeleteYay for daylight savings!!! I hate "losing an hour" but it's sooooo worth it for it to be sunny later :-D
ReplyDeleteIncline of 9?? I just died thinking of that haha. But your interval running is exactly what I do! I have to in order to keep my sanity (& not pass out).

Five Minute Style
I need to get with Nikki's link-up so I can hold myself accountable! Interval training is where its at, even though I hated it during soccer conditioning it's such a great workout.
ReplyDeleteLove your scarf and all your videos! :)
ReplyDeleteBtw, I've nominated you for the Liebster Award, check out my blog for more details!
